Clean Water Saves Lives

Have you ever been truly thirsty?
Probably not.

Have you ever walked over a mile to get water for your family only to have to carry it back on your head? Have you ever drank water out of a river where clothes are washed…and so are the water buffalo?
Probably not.

Most people in the western world haven’t. But, this is a common occurrence in rural India. There are thousands of villages without adequate access to clean drinking water. If you’ve ever had the opportunity to speak with a mother who has the daily task of retrieving water for her family from miles away, you’ll never forget it. Every time you walk over to your refrigerator or faucet to fill up a glass, you’ll think about that woman.

One of the world’s most serious health threats is due to disease-infested water which causes 80% of the sicknesses in developing countries and annually killing between 2 and 5 million people – mainly young children. A lack of clean drinking water and basic sanitation undermines the sustainability of other critical needs, including education, economic development, nutrition, environmental health, and gender equality.

Did you know that you can actually take action and make a tangible difference?

In 2009, we have a vision to provide 25 water wells for 25 villages. For a mere $1,200, you can purchase a water well that will provide clean drinking water for a village of 500 families. Can you believe that? Will you help us?
.

Here are two basic ways to help:

  • Make a donation in any amount.
Every dollar helps. Donate $10 or rally your group of friends and buy an entire well. Take action…make a difference.

  • Purchase a Kauzbot and 10% of the sale price goes toward water wells.
We’re excited to partner with Kauzbots.com to bring clean drinking water to rural villages in India. Purchase any of their products from October-December 2008, and Harvest India will receive 10% of the sale price to invest in water wells.
